เห็นเงียบหายไปจากงานหนังหลังจากปล่อยผลงานกํากับหนังพระเจ้าเรื่องเยี่ยม The Passion of Christ ดาราผู้กํากับรุ่นใหญ่อย่าง "เมล กิบสัน" ที่แน่วแน่และตั้งมั่นในคริสตศาสนาอย่างแท้จริง ได้แอบซุ่มเงียบลงมือสร้างหนังที่มีเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับสมเด็จพระสันตะปาปาจอห์น ปอลที่ 2 หลังทรงสิ้นพระชนม์ไปเมื่อวันที่ 3 เม.ษ. ที่ผ่านมา
ทางแหล่งข่าวหูไวจากหนังสือพิมพ์ เดอะ นิวยอร์ก โพสต์ รายงานด่วนจี๋ว่าผู้กํากับคนดังอย่างคุณลุงกิบสันกําลังเร่งมือสร้างหนังเกี่ยวกับสมเด็จพระสันตะปาปาจอห์น ปอลที่ 2 โดยยกโขยงทีมงานทั้งหมดไปปักหลักถ่ายทําตอนจบของเรื่อง โดยบินตรงไปเก็บภาพบรรยากาศสถานที่จัดพิธีฝังพระศพ ณ มหาวิหารเซนต์ปีเตอร์ กันถึงในกรุงโรม
เป็นที่รู้กันว่าผู้กํากับผู้เคร่งครัดในคริสตศาสนจักรนิกายโรมันคาทอลิกคนนี้ เคยประสบความสําเร็จอย่างยิ่งใหญ่จากหนังเรื่อง The Passion of Christ ที่สร้างสถิติใหม่ในการเข้าฉายทํารายได้ถล่มชาร์ตบ็อกซ์ออฟฟิศลบตําแหน่งแชมป์ของหนังแหวน The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ไปด้วยยอดรวมห้าวันแรกถึง 65.2 ล้านปอนด์ หรือราว 4,500 ล้านบาท

THE pope's funeral placed Mel Gibson into divine contem plation. And what he's contemplating is following the movie of Jesus Christ with a movie of John Paul. The Savior played well at the box office but scourging, flogging and crucifying is a tough act to follow. Unless it's "Mary Magdalene: The Musical," there seemed no other religious follow-up idea. Jesus wasn't going to rise again just for a sequel. But then came the mighty pageantry, the millions of pilgrims and the towering power of the Vatican. Mel dispatched a production crew to film the spectacle, crowd scenes, the historic majesty. In other words, the ending of his future film is already in the can. No business like show business.

According to Ananova Mel Gibson is off on another religious epic, this time in a slightly more down to earth character.
Mel Gibson is reportedly set to turn Pope John Paul II's story into a Hollywood movie.
The New York Post reports Gibson has already filmed the ending to the movie.
He also reportedly despatched a production crew to Rome to film the pope's funeral.
Well Pope John Paul II was certainly one of the most popular Pope's of recent history and there are some interesting moments in his Papal life. Not least being repeatedly shot and surviving, but also some of his more controversial proclamations and audiences, will Bono and his sunglasses play himself?
I wonder what the appetite is for a movie of the Pope and his life? Is it a movie for religiously tied moviegoers, or is it a film that might attract a more widespread audience? Personally I really wouldn't find it interesting, but I'm sure there are many who would.
It also strikes me as slightly odd that there was a need to send out a camera crew to get footage of one of the most covered events of the last century. There'll be footage everywhere. It either makes me think he managed to secure footage no one else could, or that the story is a bit of a wind up.

Gibson last year enjoyed one of Hollywood's biggest box-office hits with The Passion of the Christ.
The film caused huge controversy, with Jewish leaders accusing the devoutly-Catholic Gibson of anti-Semitism by portraying Jews as responsible for Christ's death, a charge he denied.
The low-budget, graphically gory film raked in $370.2m in its North American run. - Ananova.com

เมื่อวันก่อน หัวหน้าก็เล่าถึงความประทับใจส่วนตัวที่มีต่อสมเด็จพระสันตะปาปา จอห์น ปอล ที่ ๒ โดยเฉพาะบทบาทของพระองค์ในการยุติสงครามเย็น เพราะการเสด็จเยือนนคร Warsaw ของพระองค์ในปี 1979 นั้นเปรียบเสมือนแรงขับเคลื่อนให้เกิดการล่มสลายของลิทธิสังคมนิยมในประเทศโปแลนด์ ใน Soviet Union และประเทศในยุโรปตะวันออก ฯลฯ ... ฟังแล้วก็ยิ่งรับรู้ถึงความน่ารัก (อาจจะเป็นคำที่ไม่เข้ากับสถานการณ์ แต่ก็รู้สึกอย่างนั้น) ของพระองค์ค่ะ
