Few Interesting Facts About Our Lady Of Guadalupe (Feast day is December 12)

Most Catholics know that Mother Mary is Our Lady Of Guadalupe. But few know that Mother Mary is also Our Lady of Visitation. And she is very proud of the name. She visits those who need help and gives them comfort and even cures them century after century and even now.

If you take a closer look at a picture of Our Lady Of Guadalupe, you will see a black robe that wrapped around her waist. The black robe is the symbol of Aztec for pregnant lady (Aztec, ancestors of Central and South Americans=Indians). The black robe is one of the reasons why the people of Central and South America love her so much. They can relate to her as one of them when she appeared to Saint Juan Diego, who was hurrying down Tepeyac hill to hear Mass in Mexico City, on Saturday, 9 December, 1531.

December 12 is the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patron of America. It is one of the most important days in Central and South America, the vast majority are Catholics. There are about 65 million Catholics in the U.S.A., part of North America which consists of the U.S.A. and Canada. Our Lady of Guadalupe is not as popular as in the Central and South America.

Several Masses were celebrated in her honor through out the continent. The most famous and broadcast live mass was the before midnight Mass of December 11 in the Basilica of Mexico City, Mexico.

Our Lady of Mountain and Wilderness parish, Fort Lewis, State of Washington, celebrated December 12 mass at 6:00 p.m. in her honor. Less than 30 people showed up. People might be busy cooking dinner or just getting off from work. Father Jose led the celebration and he told us some thing very interesting about Mother Mary.
