There is a legend of the 4th magi. 

This is his story.

Artaban missed the caravan that took his friends Gaspar, Melchior and Balthezar to the town of Bethlehem where the Messiah, king of kings, Christ the Lord was born.

A big pearl as white as snow on the mountain top, a sapphire as blue as the night sky and a ruby as red as the rays of the setting sun were the gift for the king of kings.  None of these treasured gifts was given to the messiah because along the way, Artaban gave them away.  When he finally met Christ the Lord, he was ashamed and felt guilty.  But Christ on the way to be crucified at Golgotha gave him comfort that is now still a growing legend worth to be told and retold until Kingdom comes.

Artaban ran into a poor man who was robbed and left to die on a road.  He stopped and took care of the man.  When the man was strong enough to be moved to an inn (hotel), Artaban gave the inn keeper the pearl to pay for the expense for the care of that man.

By the time he arrived at Bethlehem, Joseph, Mary and the messiah child had left for Egypt.  He found a mother and child crying in the small inn.  The lady told him that King Herod
